Global Education Horizons

Global Education Horizons

Scholarly March 2020

A group of 16-something students are huddled around a globe kept on a table. The teacher, standing behind this group, is asking each of the students to point to their own homeland. There are Chinese, Indian, African, American, Spanish, French and Korean students. The purpose of this exercise is to find out how fast and in which direction is the Corona Virus spreading in the world. But the teacher’s larger goal is to sensitize students towards the importance of a global community that needs to join hands against the virus.

This is a classical microcosm of how global education looks like. At the heart of it, global education is about acquiring experiences that help students recognize diverse cultures and perspectives. Global education today is not just about a foreign degree, it is also about widening your horizons and perspectives.
