How to Build Your Profile for College Admissions

It can be daunting to think of ways to build your resume so early on in life. However, one needs to remember that a university is looking for more than just good grades. Besides showcasing your abilities, your profile will convey who you are as an individual. Here are some ways you can strengthen your profile:

#1 Show Leadership Skills

Leadership is often the most important thing that any college looks for. This helps give an edge over other applicants as it portrays your time-management as well as people-management skills. It shows your confidence, your ability to collaborate with your teammates and delegate tasks. The Admissions Officers want to look at a meaningful leadership experience that has not only helped you grow as a person but also helped others achieve what they want.

#2 Find Internships

As a high-school student, it can be difficult to find an internship but it is not impossible. Talk to your school counselor about companies and organizations that are offering programs for high school students. You might find the internship little unstructured in terms of the tasks and jobs you will be performing; however, what matters is the professional environment you are in and experiencing it first-hand. This being said, having internship experiences this early can help you stand out and demonstrate your desire to create career opportunities.

#3 Have a Well-Rounded Profile

Colleges are looking for people who can add value to their institution. They want someone who can strike a perfect balance between academics and extra-curricular activities. Your application should showcase your ability to communicate, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and personal growth. They want to see how you come out of a tough situation but at the same time tackle your exams.

#4 Volunteer at Places

Many organizations are looking for students to volunteer and help them with their mission. Voluntary initiatives portray your ability to selflessly help others around you while simultaneously contributing to the progress of your community. Think out-of-the-box and build a program of your own within these organizations. Doing so will help display your creative side, initiative, and leadership skills.

#5 Pursue Online Courses

Search up online courses in the field you are interested in to enhance the credibility of your interests. This will benefit you and help you gain further insight into the field and increase the depth of your knowledge.
